About 1250ships.com. 1250ships.com is owned and operated by me, Chris Daley. How did I get involved in selling ship models on the internet? Long story, but let's start at the beginning. Since the 4th grade I've been interested in military history. At Christmas that year my parents gave me the Avalon Hill wargame Victory in the Pacific. That game started a life long interest in things naval. A few years latter I discovered 1/2400 ship models. They came in kit form and I can remember painting and assembling German and British battleships. As the years went by I had less and less time to devote to games and models. By 2000 I was working for an internet consulting company building websites. In my spare time I explored the net. On eBay I found many toys from my past, including the Matchbox Sea King ships. Hardly realistic, but a fondly remembered toy. I prompted acquired the ships I had never bought when I was young. In searching eBay I found other ship models. These included models with a detail I'd never imagined when I was growing up. Some research pointed me to the Steel Navy web site. There I found links to dealers and purchased my first 1250 scale ships (Neptun's USS Brooklyn and several Navis battlecruisers). When I found myself looking to start my own business I decided to combine my retail and computer background with a hobby I'd re-discovered. I've set three goals for 1250ships: - Provide the highest quality customer service
- Provide the widest possible selection of ships
- Make sure all involved have fun- especially you the customer
Since 1250Ships opened its door in May 2002 much has changed. I started with fewer than 10 model lines. I now represent over 25 model lines including California Models and 1250 Models, my own lines. But I've tried to stay true to those three goals I set way back when. No matter what happens in the future, those objectives will continue to be the foundation of the business.
