AL 269 Lavoisier
New 1/1250 scale model of the French passenger ship Lavoisier of Chargeurs Réunis by Albatros (AL 269) as in 1950.
Built from 1948 to 1950 by Ateliers et Chantiers de la Loire at St Nazaire. 11,900 grt equipped to carry 94 first class and 230 second class passengers. Operated between Europe and Buenos Aires. Sold 1961 to Italian owners, refitted for cruising and renamed Riveria Prima. Chartered to Caribbean Cruise Lines she sailed on fourteen day cruises in the Caribbean out of US ports including New York, Ft Lauderdale, Jacksonville, and Miami.
In 1964 Caribbean Cruise Line collapsed and the ship was sold to Norwegian owners and renamed Viking Princess. Operated by Flagship Lines she continued Caribbean cruises until April 8, 1966 when she caught fire off Cuba. Two passengers died and the remains of the ship were scrapped in Spain.
