HAI 872 Aetos
New 1/1250 scale waterline model of the Greek destroyer Aetos by Hai (HAI 872) as in 1911.
Original built in England for Argentine this class of four ships was purchased complete and ready for service for £148,000 each from the English shipyard of Cammell Laird.
Served in the Balkan Wars as scouts due to lack of torpedoes. Seized by Allies in 1916 and taken over by the French Navy from 1917-1918. Returned to Greek service 1918. Evacuated Greeks from Russian during Russian Civil War. Fought in Greco-Turkish War of 1918-1922.
From 1925-1927 rebuilt into more modern destroyer configuration by J Samuel White yard. Fought in Second World War, first in Greece then with Royal Navy based in the Indian Ocean. Stricken and scrapped 1945.
