SMY 66 Solace (AH-5)
New 1/1250 scale waterline model of the American hospital ship USS Solace by Saratoga (SMY 66) as in 1941.
Built in 1927 as the passenger ship Iroquois. Acquired by the US Navy from Clyde Mallory Steamship Line July 22, 1940. Converted to hospital ship and commissioned August 9, 1941.
Present at Pearl Harbor during the attack. The filmed sequence of USS Arizona exploding was captured from her deck.
Served in the South Pacific, at Tarawa, Marshall Islands, Marianas, Peleliu, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Decommissioned March 1946, sold to Turkish Maritime Lines April 1948 and renamed Ankara. Finally scrapped in 1981.
